Not every AED meets Ontario’s construction site requirements. Under O. Reg. 157/25, only AEDs that satisfy specific regulatory standards may be used to meet compliance obligations.
What Ontario Regulations Require
The regulation clearly states that:
The defibrillator must be licensed as a medical device by Health Canada.
This means:

The AED must hold a valid Health Canada Medical Device Licence

Consumer-grade or unlicensed AEDs do not qualify

The licence must be active at the time of purchase and use
Installing a non-licensed AED may result in a project being considered non-compliant, even if an AED is physically present on site.
