Virginia State Senate passes AED bill

On Thursday, the Virginia State Senate unanimously passed a bill that would require local school boards to place automated external defibrillators in every public elementary and secondary school in Virginia.

State Senator Jeremy McPike introduced this bill after the collapse of Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin.

"I'm excited about that to make sure we have a life-saving measure ready should a kid need it,” McPike told 7News Reporter Nick Minock. “Unfortunately, it's happened multiple times across the commonwealth. And there are parents who have come to testify that have lost kids. Hopefully, we can help prevent that in the future.”

7News will provide an update if this bill passes the House of Delegates and is ultimately signed by Governor Glenn Youngkin.
